Co-authored Success

I’m delighted to report my writing partner and I have just completed the first draft of our first co-authored book. We began writing together in the first week of February 2015 and completed our first draft of over 70,000 words in the first week of April. After nine weeks of creating the story, we are now in the process of editing.

I am amazed at this, as my co-author lives in Nebraska, USA, while I live in Lancashire, England. We met online when I had written ‘A Day in the Life of a Blogger’, and he was inspired by my short story to write the same story from one of my character’s point of view. Simply put, I wrote about a murder victim, he wrote the killer’s story, ‘The View From the Other Side’.

‘A Day in the Life of a blogger’ was later given a cover, and renamed  ‘A Writer’s Blog’. Here are the links:

‘A Writer’s Blog’ from the Killer’s Perspective

This new crime thriller of ours is unusual; it has an American author writing the part of an American serial killer who flees to England to escape capture. The English characters are written by me, so at the very least, we should be authentic in our use of English Language variances and spellings.

The plot unfolds in layers, derived from the varied lives of the murdered victims, but continuing through are several constants. The principle characters weave their way through the story, tied to each other by circumstance and by their own desires. A blackmailer, a politician, his hired heavy man, a private detective, and the serial killer, all find themselves entangled in this captivating dark tale.

I’m really looking forward to seeing this published, and hope our followers are too. If any of you are interested in being Beta readers for us, please let me know here.

My husband calls me a butterfly because I flit from one hobby to another. Apart from being a wife for 52 years, a mother of three sons, and a grandmother, I'm also an author, genealogist, amateur artist, a lover of most needlecrafts, and occasional poet. Of the above, my most enduring interest has been writing and I hope to be doing it well into old age.

  3. What a cool way to meet and how interesting that you decided to co-author. It’s hard for me to imagine a co-authoring scenario, except the one that you both came up with makes perfect sense. Good luck with the book!

Thank you so much for your comment. This story just sort of wrote itself. Somehow, we’ve been on the same wavelength. My co-author has written the killer’s story in frst person, and I’ve written all the other characters in third person. Neither of us has interfered with what the other was writing, however, there have been instances where one of us has had to change something to keep in line with what the other has already written. These were only minor changes though. It has been quite an experience, and I’ve loved it.

Thank you Marian. We gave each other inspiration I think. Several times we bounced ideas around between us, and having someone else there meant we never really got stuck. It is a great experience.

  5. What a fantastic idea Carole. I loved your story about the blogger , it had a wonderful twist at the end. How wonderful that you have collaborated with an American writer and have written a book together in such a short time. Brilliant how the internet has made such things possible! I look forward to reading it 🙂

I lived in New Orleans for 15 years, but lived most of my life in Nebraska. Where does your coauthor live? Would be a very small world if I knew him.

cool beans, I am barely breaking 50k words in the same amount of time. I think it would be harder to write a story with someone rather than alone. Man I need to get my ass in motion.
